A Key West New Year!

My Parents, Jerry and Melanie have been full timing on throughout the US since February 2013 in their 22ft travel trailer.  They are wintering her in Florida and wanted to see Key West.  Since I had not yet made It to Key West we thought we would join them and Bettie, our motor home.

Our dry campsite at Navel Air Station Key West Sigsbee Point.

Duval Street and Downtown Key West on Thursday

After a nice walk up Duval street we had a great lunch at Sloppy Joe’s Bar.  The drinks and food were quite good and the live music was even better.

Westgate River Ranch RV Park

Located between the Gulf Coast and the Atlantic Ocean on US-60 near Lake Wales Florida, Westgate River Ranch RV Park, part of the Westgate River Ranch complex, has to be the most awesome RV Campground we have stayed at to date!  The sites were all large, level, with full hookups, and each with their own special personalities.  The sites are privately owned and some are rented out by the owners when not in use.  Our site, number 326, was a corner lot with swings and benches around the patio, a sunken fire pit, lush landscape, and a separate toad parking area around the corner!

Since it was only a couple weeks away from Thanksgiving we decided to cook a full on Thanksgiving Feast, Diva Camping Crew Style!  We cooked a 14 pound turkey in Kristin’s roaster, stuffing in the crock pot, green been casserole in our coach oven, and mashed potatoes in the microwave.  It was a wonderful meal!!

Besides our Thanksgiving feast, we spend Saturday at the Skeet & Trap shooting range, and the Rodeo in the evening.  We all had an awesome weekend!

The rodeo was great if only for the shear show of patriotism and love for our great country!  The crowd all joined in during the singing of the National Anthem, stood whenever a US flag entered the arena, and there was not a dry eye  in the house when John Wayne’s Why I Love America was played (which I had never heard before but is very awesome!).  If you’re looking for some good old fashioned American pride, just take a visit to the rodeo!
