A whole lot of catch-up!

Well, its been about 6 weeks since our last post.  This is not going well with the weekly blogs I guess.

When we last left you in Louisiana:

We had a great visit with Frank over some completely terrible donuts at a supposedly area famous donut shop.  I can’t belive its been 25 years since I graduated from High School and about 23 since I last saw Frank.  It was great catching up!

After breakfast we hitched up the car and hit the road.  Totally forgetting it was Spring Break season, we were unable to get a camp site anywhere on Galveston Island for the week, so we ended up just off the island at  Bay RV Park [our review].  We spent a week here and then moved onto the island at Galveston Island RV Resort [our review].

From Galveston we traveled to San Antonio to visit Iron Horse RV to have some work done on Bettie.  Her step had been not fully retracting and was getting“squishy” so that needed some attention.  Turned out the wood had rotted out and so the step had to be re-built.  We also had the oil changed and the awning mechanism lubed up (it was not pulling out).

After spending two nights at Iron Horse we were finally on our way to Fredericksburg, TX to meet up with the Xscaper’s group for the Hill Country Convergence. We are spending the month at Quiet Creek RV Resort [our review coming soon].  Two days after arriving our step broke, so back to Iron Horse for some rework…

We had a wonderful time meeting Melanie and Travis Carr, the grandkids of the founders of the Excapees RV Club and the founders if Xscapers.  As well as several other couples, singles, and families all working and traveling full time.

We had a nightly happy hour during the event in which we talked about current, past and future travel plans, how everyone is making a living on the road (including full time for another company [like us], working as a consultant, work camping, and semi-retired). We also visited Luckenbach, TX and hiked Enchanted Rock.

With plenty of time to explore, I think we have pretty well done Fredericksburg and surrounding areas.  Including:

  • LBJ Ranch –more detailed post to come.
  • Wildseed Farms – the worlds largest producer of wildflower seed
  • Luckenbach, TX
  • Enchanted Rock State Park
  • Deep Eddy Vodka Distillery
  • A wine tour (with the group) to three local wine tasting rooms
  • Hill Country Distillers – they make vodka, gin, and fruit liquors (like limoncello) from prickly pear cactus pads.
  • A trip to Austin to visit the LBJ Presidential Library

Today, April 26, we leave Fredericksburg to head back to San Antonio to Iron Horse to have the step re-worked.

Week Two (aka “Showering with Dinosaurs”)

I had hopes blogging more than once per week, and maybe it will happen when we get into a “routine’’, whatever that really looks like when you are traveling…

Last Friday (March 4) we left Orlando’s Citrus Valley RV Resort headed for Panama City, Florida for a family visit with Dana, Charles and the kiddos.

We took mostly the back roads (FL 27 & 19) and stopped at the KOA in Perry, FL for the night to break up the drive.  I started feeling sick on Friday afternoon and spent some time in bed while Stephanie drove on to PC.

We enjoyed a wonderful week of “mooch-docking” in Dana & Charles’ driveway! And use their shower (of course filled with kido toys including dinosaurs…)  I was able to work the first 3 days of the week, but felt worse on Thursday and Friday (taking two sick days) and made a trip to the urgent care on Friday for some guidance.  I had a sinus infection…

Stephanie enjoyed her time with her sister and family while I sniveled my days away in the RV.  Sorry guys, next time I’ll be more personable.

We left Panama City Friday March 11th, around 3:30 headed West.

Today, day three of our westward travel, with Galveston, TX as our destination, we spent the night at Cajun Palms RV Resort [our review]  in Henderson, LA (near Lafayette, LA).

This morning, Sunday March 13, we are going to have breakfast with on of our high school buddies, Frank Garner, before making the rest of the trip to Galveston.

We are officially on the road!!!

When we set a date of March 1st 2016 as our full time launch date only about 6 months out I was not sure we could actually hit it.  But then the to-do lists items started to be checked off, rooms in the house started to be thinned out, we had one killer of a garage sale, storage was booked and the movers came to take the big stuff we were keeping to the storage unit.

After having a couple windows de-fogged at Suncoast Designers up in Hudson, FL, we moved Bettie onto a site at Roberts RV (where she has been stored since we bought her in 2013) and finished the move in process.  Well, finished is subjective, we are still trying to find spaces for the last few bits and there needs to be another purge round, but here we are.Stephanie and Tiffany all Trailer Trashed up!

On Saturday February 27, we moved over to our friends Tiffany and Rob’s to spend the night in their front yard post Trailer Trash Bon voyage party that they threw us.  It was a blast, all of our friends came and ate a ton of “trashy” food and junk then played a rousing game of Cards Against Humanity.

Sunday morning, er, mid afternoon, we hit the road headed for Citrus Valley RV Resort in Orlando.  Stop #1 on the adventure!
